WW1 BRITISH CUFF RANK TO MAJOR OF THE WORCESTERSHIRE REGIMENT

A nice cuff rank tunic to a Major A C Johnston of the Worcestershire Regiment. Hawkes tailors label dated 1915. Complete with all brass Worcestershire buttons and Worcestershire officers collar badges. In very good condition. (little or no moth). Made from a heavy weight wool. Chest size 38 inches. Cuff rank embroidered crowns and evidence of previous rank stars. Evidence of chest ribbons (now removed)
Major Johnston was something of a celebrated soldier and Hampshire cricketer.
◾1st Jan 1916, Promoted Brevet Major
◾7th Jan 1916 – 29th Feb 1916, Employed as Staff Officer( with the 25th Division,
◾1st Mar 1916 – 27th Aug 1916, posted as Brigade Major, 7th Infantry Division.
◾28th Aug 1916 – 13 Sep 1917, Promoted to Temporary Lt Colonel,of a Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment.
◾14th Sept 1917 – 2nd Nov 1917, promoted to Brigadier General as Brigade Commander, 128th Infantry Brigade BEF. Youngest General in British Army.
◾Awarded DSO & bar; MC; five mentions and wounded 4 times – including injury that left him with a permanent limp.
◾War Diary published by Pen & Sword Publishing ◾4th Nov 1918, Worcestershire Regiment.
◾16th Dec 1918, posted as General Staff Officer (1st Class) with War Office.
◾Died 27th December 1952.
